 The Magic of Web 2.0

Illustration / Print

  • Magic of Web 2.0

Client
South By Southwest (SXSW) Interactive Conference 2007

Description
The challenge was to do a scalable, all-vector illustration that could be printed as a flyer, poster, or as large as a Billboard.

We used a loose, hand-drawn line and dramatic lighting with the Genie (Djini) imagery to add to the 'magic' of panel discussion. The result is an iconic and memorable look and feel.

Technical Specs
Apple PowerMac Dual 2 Gigs, Adobe Photoshop CS2, Adobe Illustrator CS2

Product
Illustration for the Brodeo.com Teaser Page. With the Brodeo teaser page the challenge is to be seasonal (in this case 'fall') and attractive, so a potential buyer will want to dig deeper.

Description
For this page we used a combination of various t-shirt designs from the site with a photo of the owner's seventh grade football portrait (go Broncos!). The overall effect seems to go with the fall season.

All vector illustration

Description
The main challenge for this project was to reference a retro look and feel while using only Adobe Illustrator. This particular piece is great in the kitchen. I ended up personalizing the piece by using myself and Carrie (my wife) as the models for the people.

Oh Boy!

Site Redesign / UE & UI Analysis / Graphic Design.

Full site redesign, including a UE analysis with flows, target audience overview, and a new Graphic vocabulary that meshes with the target audience and scales with future site revisions.

Description
Texas Hunt Fish provides a site that attempts wrangle the $5 billion dollar hunting and fishing industry in Texas. The site encourages community, provides news and reviews, and connects outdoorsmen with guides, landowners and merchants.

BBR worked hard to unscramble the existing THF interface by breaking up the project into 3 main parts: UE flow overview, target audience analysis, and a UI / Graphic overhaul that would use a visual vocabulary that suits the Texas outdoorsman, who are generally less savvy online users.

One of the biggest challenges was to design towards an entirely new search system that would not be implemented until a year from the existing deadline. BBR solved the problem by providing UI that required only minor revisions when the new search is integrated.

The end result is a site that not only looks like a million bucks but is more user-oriented and easy to use.

 Base Art Gallery / Studio

Identity / Logotype

  • Base Art

Client
Base Art, Inc

Product
Identity for an emerging art gallery and studio in San Francisco.

Description
The term 'base' often refers to a human emotion that is generally deep, animalistic, and oftentimes unconscious in nature. It has been suggested that humans have an innate need to create art which, some believe, is a characteristic separating us from the rest of the animal kingdom.

The name Base combined within the simple pill shape suggests that perhaps art is a cure for what ails us at a core level.

 Yahoo Variety Pack #1

Identity / Vector Illustration

  • Yahoo Logo Variety Pack

Client
Yahoo! Inc

Product
Vector art for various internal projects.

Description
During 1996 - 2000, I was asked to do many different 'one off' projects that happened internally at Yahoo. Yahoo's On First was the name of the intramural softball team, riffing off of the Abbott and Costello skit, 'Who's On First'. Yahoops was the mens basketball league. Yahoo!-opoly was created as a logo for the game of the same name, that was given as a gift to all the employees at the end of 1999.
