Robots Love Origami

snack time folds by robert j lang

I’m in the middle of a cool origami kick right now.. The image above is the folding pattern (pdf) for Snack Time, an interesting take on two well-made insects. Origami’s a good mix of creative, relaxing, and with a cool result at the end. Robert Lang is one of the more inspirational dudes out there doing amazing work. I might have had my chance to meet the man at the Origami USA Convention in New York this week, but I chooched it with the tickets. I’m not even sure RJ Lang was there… but I’m guessing he was.

Speaking of Origami.. I found a really quick way to fold paper that you might like. At first I chuckled like I would any youtube video meme.. but then got to thinking about how this is an interesting idea with more zen merit than I originally gave it credit for. To me, it’s more akin to seeing shapes in the clouds.

Robot Rock

Robot Rock

Ha ha ha.. not sure what this is, but I’ve got Charlie to thank for it.

He and I have an ongoing reparté about the Daft Punk song Robot Rock that got started one very early morning in some airport. Charlie feels not unlike Matt Weiner of Stylus Magazine does about Daft Punk’s creation, that it “says nothing, means nothing and goes nowhere for an unconscionably long time.” I understand that thought because that’s how I feel about Billy Joel’s later work.

Either way, this image is too awesome not to share!

(Small-ish) Unstoppable Robot

November 26th, 2007

Just found this really cool robot that walks, climbs, falls, and swims fully submersed underwater. The curved feet are particularly cool in that they have a built-in spring and tension mechanism because of their shape.

HD for Indies

May 11th, 2007

Mike Curtis, a long time friend of mine, has asked me to help him with an identity to his wildly popular website hdforindies. Mike geeks out daily on everything dealing with the High Definition world of video.. which is considerable. He’s even been known to write a review or two.

T1ME logo

May 10th, 2007

Just completed the BBR logo and identity system. Here’s a quick view of the logo, and the identity is to follow. We’re working on two sets of t-shirts as well… one corporate and one ‘just for fun’.

Special Sauce

April 11th, 2007

Working closely with Todd Hernandez over at Special Sauce. Those guys are definitely doing something right, fusing the best talent in the entertainment industry with the best products on the market. We’re proud to be helping out.. Stay tuned.

Spanning Sync Icon

February 1st, 2007

Got lucky and was asked to do the icon for a tool known as Spanning Sync. It’s a pretty amazing little syncing tool that allows Apple’s iCal and Google Calendar to sync with each other. Charlie and the crew have done a great job, and BBR is proud to be a part of it.

Searchlight Texas

January 23rd, 2007

We are proud to announce the continued working relationship with Searchlight: Texas .. a site that attempts to wrangle and organize exhaustive legislature documentation and communication from the inside out.

BBR is working on the UI and Design aspects of the site, and has recently busted out a new logo for the chaps. Congrats to Lawrence, Scott, and the rest of the team. It’s doing well, guys!

Timelines are the new Black

January 23rd, 2007

Built By Robots is proud to announce the development of a new idea revolving around the use of TIMELINES. The site is called T1ME.com

This site will be many things, but at it’s core is the ability to create timelines, group them, search them, share them, export them, and generally just have fun with them. Want to add rich media like images, sound and video? You’ll be able to do that too, and more! Imagine exploring the Mayan Culture, comparing it to the origins of Christianity, and even contributing your own unique knowledge along the way.

These are not your father’s boring old timelines, these will be highly evolved and WAY cooler than you ever thought possible (if you ever thought about timelines at all)

Congrats to Jotspot

November 6th, 2006

Congrats to Jim Haljun, Joe Krauss and the crew at Jotspot for joining the Google posse!

BBR was lucky enough to help these guys out with some early UI and design work (and even a t-shirt)… some long hours indeed.

It’s great to see the good guys win every once in a while! Good job!
